Morning Session:  QFW Modeling 101 (For QFW Models Only)
When:  Wednesday, September 28th, 10:45am-12:00pm
Where:  Main Hall
Description: So you want to be on TOP? Modeling 101 is the Ultimate Model Bootcamp; it’s a one on one with a dedicated, passionate, and truly skilled fashion guru. This workshop will train aspiring models of all ages, body types, and personalities the fundamentals of modeling such as: etiquette, runway techniques, posing and photo shoots, how to prepare for auditions/go-sees, building a proper portfolio, self-confidence, and much more!

We provide attendees valuable knowledge and skills in getting started the right way, which will increase your chances of getting signed with a reputable talent agency, booking more gigs as a model, or just feeling all around better in your own skin.  Inside this workshop attendee will get a little of everything: The gritty and the glam!

  • Model & Runway 101:  An introduction to the Modeling Industry, Interviewing skills, how to build your confidence and self-esteem
  • Werk the Runway: An extensive runway training: Poise and Posture, walking in heels Pairs and Singles, walking in dress shoes, working with clothing, Facial Expressions, developing model stance, Routines, Single and Double file, turns, etc.
  • Photography: How to prepare for a photo shoot and posing techniques to get the best photos. Learning the difference between editorial and commercial photography.
  • Go-Sees & Auditions: How to prepare for an audition or go-see and how to successfully book gigs.
  • Image & Etiquette: Learn grace, poise, personality, charm and salesmanship. Knowing how to present yourself is critical. People judge you by what they see and what you do

Presenter:  Fallon Davis is a curator of artistic and life changing experiences. A trend setter, innovator, and keen sense for whats needed to be the best. She is extremely ambitious and driven. Allowing her to leave footprints on every ground she stomps on. Being a leader has never been a struggle because she was naturally constructed that way. A graduate of LIM College, a private, specialized undergraduate and graduate college focused on the business of fashion in Midtown Manhattan, her vision to lead not only lies in being in charge but exists in her power to teach, learn, and grow from every person she meets on her journey.

When:  Wednesday, September 28th, 1:00pm-3:45pm
Where:  Conference Room 2
Description: This  workshop is designed to make sure QFW Glam team executes Flawless looks promptly and accurately.  This will be a very intensive and fast past course for our Hair and Makeup Artists.  We will go over the looks created for each show and recreate those looks in 20 mins or less.  Come fully equipped with your Kits as we will go over Avant Garde Hair and Makeup, Runway Hair and Makeup, Trans Hair and Makeup, Masculine Makeup, Proper color matching for all skin tones, How to work with all Textures of  Hair.
Presenter:  Adjoa Courtney is a professional Hair and Makeup Artist based out of Charlotte NC with over 10 years of experience specializing in all HD Productions for Film, Television, Commercials, Live Events, Online, Corporate, and Beauty Work. She is very proficient and fast as she knows her clients demands are number one. She is an expert with color matching all ethnicity complexions and styling all hair types. She is the owner of Make Me By Joya, a Mobile Beauty Bar catering to the South Eastern Brides. She is the creative director for Queer Fashion Week and the QFW Glam Team.

Description:  This 2 hour 2 day workshop is for all, Makeup Babies,  Makeup Enthusiasts, Makeup Junkies, and Makeup Geeks.  This will be an enthusiastic demonstration on the first day, providing you all of the product knowledge, brand recommendation and instruction so have your questions ready!Our second day will be totally hands on!! So bring in your makeup bag and let’s recreate these perfected looks. Go home with the knowledge and technique that’s right for you Learn proper facial hygiene and the correct techniques to apply your everyday makeup.

Styling topics explored include: playing with your gender, celebrating your ethnic/cultural heritage, making your unique body shape work for you and embracing your authentic self.

Afternoon Session:  Drawing the Fashion Runway

Description:  We will draw and discuss fashion runways as metaphor, image and physical material.
Presenter:  Tania Hammidi is a live artist, writer, and the founder of Queerture: Queer + Couture, an organization highlighting LGBTQIA Fashion Design, Illustration, Modeling, and style innovations. Queerture has been highlighted by the Huffington post, ONE Archives, and was invited to organize a closing Fashion Show at UCLA’s annual Queer Conference, in 2012. Tania earned a Ph.D. in Critical Dance Studies from UC Riverside (2011) and an M.S. in Community Development from UC Davis (1999). Her dissertation “Dress, Dance, Desire: Statecraft and the Dressed, Dancing Body” focused on masculinities and the roles of costume in contemporary queer/drag performance.

Morning Session:  From Exhibitionism to Shaming: Queer Dressing in a [Not Always] Sex-Positive World

Description:  When we choose the clothes we wear, we’re signaling identity and desire, sometimes very overtly. Let’s explore how our sartorial choices factor in when presenting ourselves as sexual and gendered beings… and what happens when the rest of the world brings judgement down in response. From erotic exhibitionism and flagging to slut-shaming and queer oppression, let’s talk about sex and fashion!

Presenter:  Carol Queen PhD is staff sexologist and Company Historian at Good Vibrations, the women-founded sex shop, where she has worked since 1990. She is the lead author on The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for Everyone and the author of Exhibitionism for the Shy. A noted cultural sexologist whose work has been widely published, she’s written or edited over a dozen books. She has been speaking publicly about sexuality for over 40 years—a loooong time ago, she confounded one of the first gay youth groups in the nation. More recently she co-founded the Center for Sex & Culture [www.sexandculture.org] in San Francisco.

Afternoon Panel:  Brand Evolution: Growing a Queer Fashion Brand in a Binary Industry & Marketplace
When:  Friday, September 30th
Where:  Conference Room 1
Description:  The allure of celebrity clientele and the sparkle and shine on display at red carpet events conceal the specific challenges of growing a queer fashion brand in an established and binary mainstream fashion industry. This panel will explore the unique, behind the scenes obstacles facing queer- owned small businesses versus the public image presented on social media. Questions posed will prompt discussion of individual queer fashion brand stories, from production supply chain resolutions to competition with established multi-million dollar brands. The panel will also address the importance of internal market competition while encouraging the creation of partnerships and collaborations amongst the community of queer design companies. Further, we will emphasize the importance of supporting these burgeoning businesses as they continue to develop, in hopes of making a greater impact on the fashion industry at large.
